Saturday’s are for working, right?? Currently writing checks to the IRS, sending emails, double checking details for next week, and making a bouquet for my grandparent’s 70th wedding anniversary. You read that right: SEVENTIETH. It seems an understatement to say #marriagegoals, but.... so accurate! 😭💖 I am so fortunate to have so many examples of incredible marriages in my life. It gives me so much hope for relationships and for humans! We are so messed up sometimes, and make so many mistakes, but sometimes we really can keep loving and caring for each other. . . . . . . Let’s talk about imperfection and natural beauty for a minute. 🌿 It’s weird being in a creative and visual industry, and one that focuses the one day with possibly the highest expectations of beauty and “looking your best” you’ll experience in your whole life. That is some pressure! Working with flowers as an art visual medium for creating atmosphere for weddings, I feel like I’ve learned so much about the power of imperfections, and the power of natural beauty and what that even means. If you’ve ever worked with flowers, you know there is no forcing them to be something they’re not. And not only that, but the little (or big) imperfections are what make them valuable and really engaging and powerful. Not to beat on the metaphor too hard, but you guys! Not looking just like everyone else is powerful!! It’s valuable! It’s part of what makes you who you are! I think this is one reason it’s so important to me to find ways to reflect the personality and unique story of the people I work with through my designs and flower choices. Why try to hide your uniqueness with generic flowers or withe being nervous about if you’re on trend too much or too little! Show me what you love and what you’re drawn to, and I can take it from there to highlight YOU 💚 . . . . . Lets talk inspiration for a sec. I put off designing the bouquet and boutonnière for this couple until I had met them and seen their wardrobe. Why? Because I don’t really see the point in just throwing something together. Weddings are special. People have unique stories and features. Outfits take months so choose. So why top it off with a generic, unintentional boutonnière or bouquet?! 🌿🌿🌿 Sometimes there is one little detail that sets the whole tone... Sometimes it’s a personal story, or a particular adjective- or a special flower with a story behind it. 3 guesses what the inspiration was for these designs!! 😁 . . . . . Where to start? I have used up any thoughtfulness or cleverness for captions over the past few months of designing and communicating with clients and vendors. But I have so much I would like to say about what it means get the chance to start off what’s going to be an amazing 2019 season with this project ✨✨✨ Working hard on a project of my own design, and letting go of everything else, is the best feeling - I love being able to trust the creativity, skill, and passion of my team. This is the feeling I hope my couples have as they are planning their weddings! This is why it is so important to look thoroughly at portfolios AND have a few good conversations with the people you are thinking of hiring and working with for the duration of your engagement. Skill, vision, personality, and communication style - so important for giving you the confidence and excitement you want to have about your wedding! 🌿🌿🌿 It’s a busy next few months, but I’m going to try and be better about posting my work, to keep you updated, and to keep sharing what I love about it and this crazy amazing job. 🌾🌾🌾 Happy Monday! . . . . . May is here, and with it the big start to wedding season 2019! I’m still a little jet lagged, and my brain is only slowly coming around to not being on vacation 😂 🌸 This week we have a super rad inspo shoot that has been in the works for more than a year (😱) and is something I am truly passionate about. I can’t wait to actually see it happen, and then share it with you! Surrounded by flowers on all sides. 🌸🌷🌸🌷🌸 This is pretty much how I felt my whole time in The Netherlands! How do people who are not florists survive coming back from such a flower filled place, and not suffer withdrawals?? How can we live without flowers everywhere?! 🌱 I was so thankful to come home to a yard bursting with blooms, and a ginormous bunch of lilac from @amygraaaace (👏) Moral of the story: get more flowers in your life any way you can!
