Dating, Love, Engagement, Wedding, Marriage...
…and VALENTINE’S DAY.
What are you going to do about it? Did you date over V-day? Are you engaged in February? Or are you just recently married and not sure WHAT IN THE WORLD to do for this officially-the-most-difficult-fake-holiday-ever? (I’m trying to make Thursdays the Wedding-related-blog day, but Valentine’s is nearly upon us and I feel like I have to address it.)
I’m not sure if I have it good or worse… my husband is awesome about romantic and lovey stuff. But then I encounter the “but do girls give stuff to guys for Valentine’s day, too?” spiral and don’t know what to do. See, what I used to do was just pretend it was a real holiday (aka I would skip school) and do something really fun and NOT romantic. For instance, the first Valentine’s day my husband and I were together -in the same state- while we were dating, we went snowboarding. It was awesome. (And no one was there because IT’S NOT A REAL HOLIDAY… which has it’s upsides!)
But now we’re old and married and have jobs and can’t really do cool stuff like that. Last year for Valentine’s day my husband took me to dinner and the Portland Art Museum. Which was actually pretty much that cool. (Told ya he’s a winner.) (I think it was a surprise, too. I can’t remember.)
This year, I decided I was going to try and plan something cool for Valentine’s day to be nice to him - ahead of time and all. But then everything I came up with was really expensive. Still working on it.
And what about flowers, you ask? Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the idea of flowers for Valentine’s day. It makes the whole non-holiday a little less complicated. But for us? Well… it’s kind of difficult to buy a florist flowers, because she has access to cooler ones than you. And I do like to buy flowers for my husband, but for some reason I like to do that on Easter. I dont’ know, either.
What do you do for Valentine’s day? Or do you try to pretend it doesn’t exist? (This week I noticed Jasmine Star’s suggestions for Valentine’s gifts - she has really great ideas that are a little different and really cool. So check that out if you like the little gift route.) If I were hoping for a gift, I would want THIS:
And if you are one to go the flowers route, feel free to contact me if you would like something a little less traditional and more non-holiday-awesomeness.
